The new kitten parents feed the raw food a few times, run into a question they can’t answer, get confused about temperature or quantities or what to do when the kitten refuses a meal — and quietly go back to kibble. A Note on Temperature — Because It Matters More Than You Think
I want to address the food temperature question directly because it’s one of the most common reasons raw feeding fails in the early weeks.
Cats are obligate carnivores who evolved hunting warm prey. When food comes straight from the fridge at 4°C, many cats will sniff it and walk away. This is not fussiness — it is biology. Their instincts are telling them the food is not fresh.
The ideal serving temperature for raw cat food is 35–38°C — body temperature. This means raw food always needs to be brought to at least room temperature before serving, and ideally gently warmed using a warm water bath method.
